How Do Airplanes Fly?
Ever wonder how airplanes fly? This video demonstrates how the wings of an airplane allow it to stay in the air, no matter how big or how much weight is inside.
The Speed: The wings push air over the top surface and under the bottom surface. The curved shape of the wing makes it so that the air moving over the top surface is moving at a higher speed than the air moving under the bottom surface.
The Lift: The faster the air moves, the lower its pressure is, so the higher pressure moving under the bottom surface of the wing creates a lift. The angle of the wing, or “angle of attack” is meant to create more lift. The pilot will increase the angle of attack after the appropriate speed is reached, enabling the plane to stay in the air.
